Case Study: Diagnostic Imaging Care Options Webpage Design
Project Overview
As a UX Designer, I was tasked with designing a webpage that would inform patients of their options when receiving diagnostic imaging care. The goal was to create a clear, accessible, and user-friendly page that seamlessly integrated with the existing practice's website while adhering to branding guidelines.
Project Goals:
Inform Patients: Provide comprehensive information on diagnostic imaging options available to patients in an easy-to-understand format.
Enhance User Experience: Ensure the webpage is user-friendly, visually appealing, and accessible to all patients.
Align with Branding: Incorporate the practice’s branding elements to maintain consistency with the rest of the website.
Facilitate Decision-Making: Assist patients in making informed decisions about their diagnostic imaging care.
My Approach:
1. Content Outline Review & Editing:
Received the initial content outline, detailing various imaging options and financial variables.
Reviewed and edited the content to ensure clarity, accuracy, and patient-centered language.
Collaborated with content writers to refine the tone and structure, ensuring it aligned with the practice’s communication style.
2. Layout Sketching:
Sketched a rough layout to visualize the structure of the webpage.
Focused on key elements such as headings, sections for each imaging variable, and a call-to-action (CTA) for scheduling appointments.
3. Wireframing:
Translated the sketch into a low-fidelity wireframe to communicate the intended layout.
Used wireframes to map out the placement of content, images, buttons, and links.
Ensured the wireframe was responsive, with considerations for mobile and desktop views.
4. Mockup Creation & Iterations:
Developed a high-fidelity mockup incorporating feedback from stakeholders.
Applied branding elements like colors, typography, and logos to align with the practice's visual identity.
Iterated on the design based on feedback, making adjustments to improve usability and visual appeal.
Enhanced the mockup with final UI elements, including buttons, icons, and imagery.
Ensured the page was visually engaging while maintaining a clean and professional look.
Focused on accessibility, adding alt text for images, ensuring color contrast, and using legible fonts.
5. Full Build in WordPress:
I built out the webpage in WordPress, integrating it into the practice’s existing website.
Ensured the final design was pixel-perfect, functional, and aligned with the wireframe and mockup.
Performed a final review with stakeholders, making minor adjustments as needed.
Successfully launched the webpage, providing patients with a valuable resource for understanding their diagnostic imaging options.
Project Outcomes
User Engagement: The new webpage quickly became the second most visited page on the site, just behind the homepage, earning positive feedback from patients who appreciated its helpful information and intuitive layout.
Increased Appointments: There was a noticeable increase in appointments for diagnostic imaging, attributed to the clear presentation of options and the prominent CTA.
Positive Stakeholder Feedback: Stakeholders appreciated the iterative design process and the final product's alignment with the practice’s branding and goals.
Reflection
This project highlighted the importance of clear communication and collaboration between UX designers, content writers, and stakeholders. Through an iterative process, I was able to refine the design and deliver a final product that met both user needs and business goals. The successful launch of the Diagnostic Imaging Care Options webpage is a testament to the power of thoughtful design and user-centric approaches in healthcare.
